Factory and vehicle emissions are a cause of atmospheric and environmental pollution. They have become important subjects of investigation as concern for the environment has increased over recent years. The X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometer (EDX) permits easy analysis of particulates separated and collected from vehicle and factory exhaust, as well as those collected on filter paper. This section gives examples of the quantitative and qualitative analysis of vehicle exhaust particulates.

X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometer (EDX)

This instrument irradiates the sample with X-rays and measures the energy of the generated fluorescent X-rays to determine the type and content of the elements comprising the sample. EDX permits the non-destructive elemental analysis of samples in solid, powder, liquid, disk, or wafer form and is used in a wide range of applications.
